Trubach Residence

Exterior Gendai Cladding

Obertrubach, Germany

Project Overview

This striking single-family residence nestled in the rolling hills of Obertrubach exemplifies the seamless fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary architecture. Situated in the tranquil countryside of Bavaria’s Upper Franconia region, the home features extensive use of Nakamoto Forestry’s Gendai cladding, a charred wood siding produced using the traditional Japanese technique of Yakisugi.

The Gendai surface, with its brushed and refined char layer, gives the façade a distinctive, elegant character that harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding landscape. The dark, textured finish creates a bold contrast to the light-toned timber elements and the expansive glass surfaces, which flood the interior with natural light and offer panoramic views of the rural setting.

Built with a strong focus on sustainability and longevity, the house leverages the natural durability of Yakisugi-treated wood, ensuring low maintenance and resistance to weathering. The cladding not only contributes to the building’s aesthetic appeal but also underscores its environmentally conscious design ethos.

This project is a testament to the versatility of Nakamoto Forestry products in modern European architecture — combining time-honored techniques with cutting-edge design for a timeless, resilient result.
