Rivendell

Exterior Gendai Cladding

Skamania County, Washington, USA

Project Overview

Nestled in the forest along the cliffs of the Columbia River Gorge, the Rivendell project is a perfect amalgamation of minimalism, biophilic design, healthy living and beauty. The plans for the house originally came from Den Outdoors, with plenty of custom details and personal touches added during the planning and construction phases. Owner Stephen Proctor used the plans for the “Modern Alpine Cabin” as his base, and got creative from there.

The exterior of the home is clad in Gendai in Linseed Black with Douglas Fir accents. Stephen wanted to bring the same color palette to the interior, when we toured the inside we found lots of black accented with natural wood. This is no accident – Stephen’s love of black and natural wood initially came from a mug purchased from a shop while on a trip in Northern Ireland, and has slowly permeated many other aspects of his home’s design aesthetic. “It’s this perfect harmony of Scandinavian design accented with Japanese tea culture…I run around with a few Japanese-American artists and tea masters so that’s a part of my life.”
